Spring Commissioning: Getting Your Boat Ready for Lake Murray Season

After months in storage, your boat needs a proper once-over before it's ready for a full season on Lake Murray — not just a quick look and a full tank of gas.

Here's what spring commissioning typically covers:

Fluids and filters. Oil, filters, and fuel that sat all winter should be checked or changed, especially if winterization additives were used.

Battery and electrical. Batteries lose charge over winter even when disconnected. We test capacity and charging system output, not just whether it turns over.

Belts, hoses, and clamps. Cold weather is hard on rubber. A cracked hose or a belt that's starting to glaze is a lot cheaper to replace at the dock than after it fails on the water.

Cooling system. Whether you have raw water cooling or a closed system, we confirm it's flowing properly before you're relying on it in July heat.

Hull and running gear. A close look at the prop, trim tabs, and underwater hardware catches winter damage or corrosion before it becomes a performance issue.

Safety equipment. Fire extinguishers, flares, and life jackets all have expiration dates — spring is the natural time to check them.

Boats stored at Jakes Landing are easy for us to get to directly, but we handle spring commissioning for boats stored elsewhere too. Request a service appointment and we'll have you ready for opening weekend.
